Kenya Ports Authority acquires first ever locally manufactured mooring boat

Mooring boat 1.jpgKenya Ports Authority has acquired the first ever locally manufactured mooring boat christened KMB 9 that will boost marine operations and elevate the overall efficiency of the Port of Mombasa.

The newly constructed 14.5m long mooring boat is equipped with twin screw designed boat, powered by two Caterpillar engines CAT C9.3 ACERT series, with power rating of 310 kW at 2100rpm, capable of reaching maximum speed of 10.5 knots.

The high-performance modern boat is also capable of withstanding rough weather at sea while conducting marine operations.

The Authority has adequately invested in marine operations, boasting a contingent of six Tugboats, four pilot boats, four mooring boats, and two security patrol boats.

Mooring boat 3.jpgKPA Managing Director captain William Ruto said the acquisition of the boat is part of Authority's strategy plan to develop port infrastructure by implementing capacity expansion programs, and equipment acquisition and modernization to complement the growing demand.

KMB 9 was given a water canon salute by two   tugs depicting her maiden voyage to the port of Mombasa.​
