PUBLIC NOTICE

 

SAFE PRACTICES WITHIN THE PORT

 

In the exercise of the powers conferred by Section 262 of the Harbours Regulations 1970, Kenya Ports Authority hereby makes the following Safety and Security measures:-

 

1.0          TRAFFIC

 

1.1        Maximum speed along Kilindini road is 50 Km/h

1.2        Maximum speed along other internal roadways and working areas is 30 Km/h

1.3        Obstruction of the roadways/passageways is prohibited

1.4        Stopping or parking on a yellow line is prohibited

1.5        All persons entering the Port must display the port pass identification badges

1.6        Vehicles should posses valid  inspection and insurance certificates.

1.7        Vehicles bodywork, load platform, anchorage points or twist locks should  be in    sound and serviceable condition

1.8        Vehicles must be fitted with appropriate reflectors, both front and rear

1.9        Vehicles should enter the port to load strictly on appointment

1.10      Vehicles carrying steel coils should have appropriate steel cradles and lashed  firmly using wires or chains plus turnbuckles

 

2.0          ENTERING INTO CONTAINER TERMINAL

 

2.1        Only authorized persons and vehicles will be allowed to enter the    Container     Terminal

2.2        Container carrying trucks must be fitted with approved twist locks

2.3        All vehicles entering the Container Terminal should be equipped with    suitable  ambler flashing warning light which should be used when working at the

            Container area; where vehicles are transient and not regular visitors to the Port,hazard warning lights should be displayed.

2.4        No persons will be allowed to enter the Container Terminal without first obtainin permission form the Manager Container Operations

2.5        Haulers and their vehicles must not encroach onto hatches areas or yellow lines  denoting plant runways

            2.6        Parking or leaving vehicles/trailers unattended-to at the Container Terminal is

            prohibited

2.7        All vehicles must adhere to Traffic flow system

2.8        No vehicle shall be allowed to stay overnight at the Container Terminal

2.9        The parking of private vehicles on the quay other than in the designated publi parking slots is prohibited.  Authorized private parking areas are located alongside the Container Operations office block

2.10      Motor cycles, mopeds and cycles are prohibited from entering the Terminal

 

3.0        COMPLIANCE

 The above measures shall be mandatory and applicable to the Port of Mombasa    and all   Inland Container Depots as appropriate.  Non conformity shall be  dealt with appropriately including being barred entry into these facilities.
