PORT OF MOMBASA IN MAKES ANOTHER RECORD PERFORMANCE.

 MSC Aurelie alongside berth No.16

The Port of Mombasa   over the weekend registered 1339 moves within 24 hours setting a new record performance at the busy container terminal.

Regular caller MV.  MSC Aurelie   first did 590 moves in one Shift (8 hours) at berth No. 16 and moved to set the new record at the close of the third shift. The ship had discharged a total 1563 full and empty containers and loaded another 1084, by the time we went to Press. She is expected to sail out on Tuesday after clearing a balance of 590 containers.

This is yet another impressive record following that of 581 moves in one shift (8 hours) and 1155 moves in 24 hours by container carrier MV. Maersk Jefferson in August 2009. The new performance is way above the agreement between KPA and the East African Conference Lines (EACL) to deliver 200 moves per 24 hours. This is yet above the performance contract with the Government for the port to attain 136 moves per shift translating into 408 moves per 24 hours

Port Terminal operators have attributed this performance to improved vessel planning and dedicated   staff.  Other recorded highest performers are MSC Sudan and MV Nordstar which registered 1076 and 924 container moves within 24 hours in the year 2006.

Meanwhile a total of 19 container vessels are expected to call at the port in the next nine days to discharge 9326 containers and load 10,291 containers. Among the expected vessels are five waiters for the container terminal.

Ends.
